47-Foot Freeman Finish Restoration, Fort Lauderdale
This 47-foot Freeman in Fort Lauderdale got a full finish restoration. The entire hull was wet-sanded, followed by a heavy cut and medium cut polish across all three levels to remove oxidation and bring the finish back to a deep, clean shine.
What We Did
- Wet sanding: The entire hull was wet-sanded to remove the oxidized top layer of gelcoat. This is what takes a finish from chalky and faded back to a surface that can actually be polished.
- Heavy cut compound: A heavy cut removed the sanding marks and the remaining oxidation.
- Medium cut polish: A medium cut polish refined the finish and brought back the depth and gloss.
- All three levels: The same process was carried out across all three levels of the boat, so the finish is consistent from top to bottom.
Why Oxidation Happens
South Florida sun, salt air and humidity break down gelcoat over time. It starts as a dull, chalky haze and gets worse every season. Once it gets to this point, a regular wash and wax won't bring it back. The damaged layer has to come off before the shine can come back.
